The European seafood market is made up of more than 728 million consumers and represents SUSTA’s third largest seafood regional trading partner, accounting for approximately a quarter of total U.S. seafood exports. Europe is also the third largest consumer of seafood in the world. In 2007, U.S. seafood exports to Europe were valued at nearly $1.1 billion despite a decline in the volume of exports. Seafood coming out of the SUSTA region accounted for $41.38 million of the total U.S. exports to Europe in 2006. The region has an increased interest in processed, packaged and frozen seafood products.
