The market for horticultural products in the United Arab Emirates has been going through an expansion phase for many years, particularly with the rapid economic development of this region. From 2003 to 2007, the U.A.E.’s horticulture imports from the United States rose from $90,000 to $1,282,000. Multi-billion dollar beautification projects aim to increase tourism and provide a recreational outdoor setting for residents. Hotels, resorts and private residences are also using plant and nursery products to create outdoor gardens and landscapes, as well as indoor retreats in homes, offices and hotels. These public and private projects are expected to greatly increase demand of horticultural products from the U.S. in future years.
