In Eastern Europe, Bulgaria and Romania are the top importers of U.S. agricultural products. Since 2000, the amount of Romanian agricultural imports has increased by almost 170%, valuing at $2.5 billion dollars in nominal prices. In 2005, this region’s agricultural imports from the U.S. valued at $231.3 million dollars. Consumers are increasingly demanding foods that are convenient and easily prepared, with frozen foods, dried products, soups, and miscellaneous other prepared foods growing in popularity.
